The Korean Revolution Museum is the successor to the original National Central Liberation Struggle Museum that was set up in August, 1948. It was renamed the Korean Revolutionary Museum on January 13, 1961.
The current building was opened on Mansu Hill in April, 1972 on the occasion of the 60th birthday of President Kim Il Sung. It has a total floor space of over 581,000 sq. ft./54,000 sq. m, over 90 exhibition halls, a large meeting hall, two projection rooms, several large cycloramas, and a total display length of more than 14,760 ft./4,500 m.
