The Grand People’s Study House is the largest Korean-style building built under the grand plan of President Kim Il Sung. After only 21 months of construction it was opened in April, 1982 with a total floor space of 100,000 sq. m. in over 600 rooms with a total seating capacity of more than 5,000. The storage capacity of the Study House is 30 million volumes.
Located on Namsan Hill in the Central District of Pyongyang, it is open free of charge to any citizen over 17 years of age. On either side of the main building are two clocks that ring with the sound of “Song of General Kim Il Sung”.
